Bone Marrow Drive and recyling event in Plainfield IL | Living In Plainfield
May 13th, 2007 by Julie
This weekend was the “Make a Difference” weekend at our neighborhood school.
This past Saturday, May 12th, Mrs. Gail Wengelewski, a member of the Meadow View Elementary faculty in Plainfield IL, organized a wonderful event that supported so many great causes. What started out as a blood drive… quickly grew into something so much bigger! It’s because of her that all of these amazing event’s were possible!
In addition to the blood drive, there was also a rummage sale, electronic recycling event, organ donation information station, and the bone marrow registry drive held in memory of 6 month old Trevor Kott.
I organized and hosted the bone marrow registry drive and was joined by two of my sisters, LuWayne Magiera and Shelly Naples, as well as my new friend Tracy Herring. Tracy and I met on the on-line website for mothers called Cafe Mom. She drove about an hour and 15 minutes to help me run my drive this weekend, and we were finally able to meet for the first time.
Tracy is an amazing person, and someone I am really looking forward to getting to know better. She is hosting her own drive in Lake Forest this Wednesday May 16th at the Lake Forest Health and Fitness Center, at 1200 Westmoreland Dr. in Lake Forest, IL. (847-535-7000) The drive is from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and the fees for becoming registered are waived because of the Thanks Mom campaign going on from May 7th - May 22nd. I’m in awe of all the things she is able to accomplish, and of everything she is so eager to do!
I am so grateful everyone’s help in getting everyone registered! We were able to add over 50 new registered donors to the national registry. I know that Trevor would be so proud of everything that happened at our drive this weekend! Thank you to those who came out and registered as well!
Thank you as well to Mrs. Kristina Davis, principal of Meadow View Elementary School! Thank you for all of your support in making this event happen. I know that some of these causes are very near and dear to your heart! Meadow View is lucky to have both you and Mrs. Wengelewski leading and inspiring the children of Plainfield!

Julie - what you are doing is so wonderful and it is great to see people that give so much of their time for a good cause. Keep it up!
Thanks Ines. I know that this drive will have saved the life of at least one person;l or at least I hope!
The next time the rhetorical question arises… “have you ever saved someone else’s life?”
My answer will be, with Trevor’s help…. “probably”.
Let me chime in here as well. I’m so happy this drive was successful. Our drive here in LA is tomorrow.
