Plainfield IL Spring Fest 2007 | Living In Plainfield
May 17th, 2007 by Julie
The Plainfield Spring Fest begins this weekend!
I love Plainfield because of the 3 Festivals that take place in the downtown area every year. This weekend is the kick-off to the first of the 3 fests that will take place here in Plainfield before years end, Spring Fest. The “Plainfield Fest” is usually held the weekend of the 4th of July and the “Harvest Fest” typically occurs on or Near October 1st. I always remember that one because it’s the same weekend as our wedding anniversary!
By the end of this weekend, over 4,000 people will have flooded the historic downtown Plainfield area in search of fun, food, rides and games!
The second edition of “Plainfield Idol”, will also take place on Sunday, May 20th from 12:00 to 1:00pm. The first Plainfield Idol show took place this past fall at the Plainfield Harvest Fest. Auditions were held this past weekend, and most of the performers will be vocal acts, although one band act is expected to perform.
We’ve always had such a great time at all of the Plainfield Fests. My kids love the carnival the most! For a cost-free alternative to the carnival rides, there is a great park that we’ve affectionately named the “railroad park” just off of the midway. Lots of parents must feel the same way about the over inflated price of ride tickets because it gets to be one crowded park!
As a heads up, the following roads will be closed as a result of the weekend activities:
- Lockport Street between Route 59 and Fox River Street will be completely closed to all traffic.
- Lockport Street between James and Fox River Street will be checkpoint controlled and open to local businesses and residents only.
- Traffic on Fox River Street will be allowed to travel south only between Lockport and Chicago streets.
- Des Plaines Street between Chicago and Oak Streets will be closed. A checkpoint will be set up at Oak and Des Plaines streets for local traffic and handicapped parking.
- Illinois Street will be completely closed between the alley just north of Lockport Street and the alley just south of it.
The Plainfield Spring Fest will run from : 10:00 am to midnight on Saturday, May 19th, and from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday, May 20th.
There will be lots to do, lots to eat, and lots to see!
Volunteers also plan to hand out over 300 magnets to help bring Plainfield IL resident Lisa Stebic back home. Please visit www.FindLisaStebic.com for more information on how to get involved.
If you see us on the Midway… make sure to say hello!
At our house, Plainfield Spring Fest means that summer is on it’s way! Have fun this weekend, and stay safe!!!

You always make me want to see Plainfield. It sounds like a wonderful “Leave it to Beaver” place to live.
